Okay, I have to be honest. The initial feeling I had when I realized July was over was pure dread because I *had* to write another My Monthly Buys. Then I got a little disappointed in myself, because I believe that you have every right to not do something if you don't want to. Then I thought about if I quit this series I would only be hurting myself because as I mentioned in my June Buys, these monthly posts put my spending into perspective and help me spend less on only things I truly want and will use. After this realization I gained motivation to continue with this monthly series. This month wasn't too bad and I made some investment purchases.
I have this in black and kept thinking about how I needed it in white. I stopped into AA to try on shorts (which I didn't like btw) and decided to get this top while I was there. It's a good basic to have.
H&M Dusty Pink Lace-Up Top: $12.99
Definitely a more trendy item, but I love the color and fit of it. You can see how I styled it in this post.
Primark Top: $6
Primark Shorts: $6
Primark Skirt: $14
Primark Total: $26
So I did a little damage at Primark. If you've been following My Monthly Buys you know that I like to brag about going into Primark for a browse and coming out empty-handed. Well this time I was suckered in, but how cute are these palm tree print shorts?? Oh, and of course they have pockets! I can't wait to wear these to the beach. And this skirt is PERFECT. I love the fit of it and how it goes with so many things. The black turtleneck is another basic to add to my wardrobe.
Betsey Johnson Bra from Nordstrom: on sale for $29.90!
So, lets talk about bras for a minute...I think I'll do a more detailed post on how a bra that fits is life-changing, but for now I'll just say this: My bra size can't be found in your typical shop and usually costs at least $50 or more. On my trip to King of Prussia one of my missions was to find a strapless bra at Nordstrom and mission accomplished ($66 later...) I also found a black bra by Betsey Johnson (actually had no idea she made bras) in the Anniversary Sale for $30! WHAT A STEAL. There is still some time left for the #NSALE, so hurry on over for some deals!
This brush has been on my to-get list for a while now, I just haven't been into the idea of spending a lot on beauty products. I needed another $5 to claim a $20 Note on my charge card, so I thought what the heck--I'll get something I've been wanting and will actually use. I don't regret buying this at all, it works really well with the Dipbrow Pomade (which btw I'm running low on!)
Nordstrom Total: $115
Clearly this is where all my money went last month, but I'm happy I investing in the bras I purchased. I low key mentioned above that I opened a Nordstrom credit card (God I hope my mom doesn't read this) and TBH it's my first actual credit card. Guys, I don't like having a credit card, but I guess this is what adulting consists of. Does anyone else hate the idea of credit cards?
Essie Nail Polish in Au Natural $3.99 (T.J. Maxx)
Whenever I'm in T.J. Maxx I always check out what shades of Essie nail polish they have because it's my favorite and it's only $4 a pop. I picked up this color, expecting it to be more opaque. I should have realized how sheer "Au Natural" would end up on my nails. It's a nice alternative to not wearing any polish at all, however.
I actually forgot I bought these (I had to edit them into my post!) They are only a dollar a pop at Walmart, so spare yourself the trouble of buying them at overpriced prices if you want to try the trend. I styled my black one here.
July Total Expenditures: $186
Is this really what I spent on "unnecessary" items this month? Because my bank account is hurting a little bit. The majority of my money went towards eating out or going on trips--I've been to two amusement parks in the past two weeks + a concert where I've budgeted $30-$50 per trip--so that explains that. One reason I consider myself a little materialistic is because if I spend money, I like to have something tangible to show for. I've been trying to spend more of my money on "experiences," so this month kind of reflects that. Do you prefer to spend money on things or doing things?
What were your favorite purchases last month? Is there anything in particular you want to buy this month? I'm still trying to find a bathing suit (sooo late) because I'm going to the beach in a couple of weeks. I just can never find any that I like or that would fit me. But I am determined!
