I Gotta Be Real

July 8, 2016

Bodysuit: Forever 21 /// Skirt: H&M /// Slides: Puma /// Hat: thrifted

I've had this skirt for a little while and haven't debuted it on here until now! If you're a frequent In Search of Sheila reader you might know that I've never really been into midi skirts or anything body-con until recently. Call it confidence issues. Also, I gotta be real with you guys about something...

This week I've been feeling uninspired as a blogger/content creator and really frustrated that I don't have someone to take my photos when I want. I used to get into funks of comparing myself to others alotttt, but the past 6 months I've been pretty okay with myself. So I'm hoping this week is just a fluke and I go back to being inspired and content. Growing up in an image-based culture has made it hard to not think why I don't have as many followers as her or why I don't get as many likes and comments as I used to. Even as a kid I always wished I received as many Christmas gifts as my friends or could go on week long trips to the beach instead of just day trips to an amusement park. This kind of mentality doesn't just fade away with time. It's a constant struggle to stay grounded and takes immense strength to be happy with what you have. It's something I'm still working on as a person.

For this casual look I paired the midi skirt with a bodysuit from Forever 21. This bodysuit has a really low back, but unfortunately I didn't get any shots of it! Next time :) Also, these slides were mentioned in my June Favorites. I've mostly been wearing them around my apartment. It was so hot when I took these photos, so this is definitely an outfit to beat the summer heat in (cheers to no bra!)

What do you think of this outfit? Do you find yourself comparing yourself to others too?

  1. in love with this midi skirt...I really like this casual look you created.

you're right...our culture is so focused on 'image', that we as bloggers, often fall into trap of comparing ourselves with others while in fact we should realize that the uniqueness of content we provide is what matters the most.

To answer your question, yes, I do compare myself with others, but I'm also learning to find my own way.

  2. Loving the entire look, Sheila. The comparing rut is something we often fall prey to, but I think the key is to not give in to it and feel "okay" with comparing ourselves. I've learnt quite a bit from the past several months that comparing really isn't going to get me anywhere, so why do it?

I hope you feel better soon, Sheila! x

  3. I think you look great in this outfit and totally rock the midi look. I totally understand, sometimes it's hard when others seem to be cranking out amazing content and looking great all the time. Just remember the image people show online isn't real life! Hopefully you break out of the funk and start to feel good again soon!

  4. I think accepting and being happy with things is something that just comes with time and getting older, even recognising it is good! I know what you mean about pictures though, mt brother is my 'photographer' and he's hardly around, it becomes so frustrating trying to arrange times and being inspired at the right time! Hopefully its just a funk and you'll break out of it soon :)

  9. I feel you girl! I used to get so upset about not getting enough likes or people unfollowing me, but honestly, I realised all that doesn't really matter. It's about you, and not about everyone else! I love your style, and I hope you get your inspiration back soon!!
