You've Never Curled Your Hair Before? | Rotating Curling Iron Review

March 28, 2016

So, a little secret about me: I never curled my hair until Irresistible Me kindly sent me their Ruby Auto-Curling Iron! Yes, yes, I am a total late bloomer when it comes to many things...and curling my hair is one of them. I used to straighten my hair in high school, but have since stopped to avoid damaging my hair and frankly, my hair is straight enough to begin with. Another reason is that my hair is extremely thick. I love my hair, but it can be a little high maintenance at times. Recently I thought about investing in a curling iron because I wanted to try and curl my hair. So when Irresistible Me contacted me for a product review I happily obliged!

The curling iron is quite large and came in this cute black box. Included with an instruction booklet, I made sure to read it carefully since I AM a noob and would end up doing something totally hazardous.

It has 5 heat settings, and I of course have to bump it up to the highest setting of 410° Fahrenheit because my hair is so thick. My first time trying the curler out I tried a lower setting, but ended up just going up to the highest temperature. After it heats up (which takes less than 5 minutes) you're ready to go.

Here is my hair before, completely untouched!

Now, since I've never curled my hair, I can't really compare the auto-rotating function to other types of curlers. Honestly, I think it makes the process a lot easier (especially if you're a newbie like me) and the LEFT and RIGHT buttons allow you to curl your hair clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on the type of curl you want. It also has a reset button that automatically returns the barrel to its starting position, which saves so much time!

I have to do my hair in three-tier sections, so the process is a bit time consuming. Another issue I ran into was how long to leave my hair in the iron, since I wanted loose beachy-waves and not a real tight curls. The problem is that my hair can't hold a curl to save my life, so I think next time I need to wrap less hair around the barrel to achieve a tight curl, which will eventually drop to a loose curl. Thick hair problems!

And here is my hair after about 45 minutes of curling it. Overall I genuinely love this curling iron and definitely recommend it! The day I received it in the mail I curled my hair that night because I was going out with my friends and got compliments! I think if you have hair that isn't as thick as mine, this product will save you lots of time while still achieving good curls. I still have to hone my curling skills, but will definitely continue to use this product.

Right now the rotating curling iron is on sale for $89 and if you sign up with Irresistible Me with your email address you will receive 20% off your first order!

Do you curl your hair? Have you ever used a rotating curling iron before? Any of my readers out there have thick hair and can relate to my problems? I think I might write a post about having thick hair in the near future.

  10. Your curls look amazing! I usually curl my hair using my straighteners but sometimes, the curls can be a bit too 'princessy'. I should definitely invest in a proper curling iron, I really like the volume and relaxed style you've ended up with here.
