Happy International Women's Day! I'm styling this plaid a-line skirt in collaboration with Sammydress which is unfortunately sold out! I did link a similar one down below. This outfit radiates confidence and empowerment, two things that all women should inspire themselves and other women to have! I have to admit, however, that I have struggled with confidence in certain garments, especially mini skirts. Tight fitting skirts (and clothes in general) always made me self-conscious because of "how much I was showing off," especially without wearing any tights. This ideology was burned into many young girls' brains at a very young age due to society's expectations of what females "should and should not" wear. Although I still find myself self-conscious in specific situations--when I was shooting these photos two young men in a car literally STOPPED and stared at me and then drove away. I felt violated and anxious and thought they were going to drive back and approach me. These are situations all women have to deal with on a daily basis--the feeling of inferiority, especially in certain clothing. I think as a whole, society is becoming more accepting, but there is still a lot of work to be done. At least I, personally, am more confident in myself and what I choose to wear.
I really love the fit and buckle details on this skirt and when paired with my chunky boots, I feel super confident and unstoppable, haha. That's what I love about clothes and fashion, it can totally change our mood and demeanor.
Do you struggle with confidence issues in certain types of clothing? Are you comfortable in mini-skirts? What do you think of this look?
I hope we all take this day (and everyday) to empower ourselves and the women around us. We should all inspire each other :)
